If You Just Do This One Thing…

If You Just Do This One Thing…

If you want to stay as youthful as possible for as long as possible, here’s the first thing I’d tell you:

Do everything you can to protect the tips of your chromosomes called “telomeres.”

It may be the most important thing you do.

    Here’s why:

Telomeres are the “time keepers” attached to every strand of your DNA. Each time your cells divide, your telomeres get shorter. When your telomeres run down, cell division stops, and your life ends…

    Obesity in a Lo-Cal Can

People are still surprised to learn diet sodas don’t give you what they promise. You may drink them because they have no calories. But diet sodas don’t help you drop weight. They make you fat instead. And you can get hooked on them.

I came across an article in JAMA about just how addicting those diet soft drinks are. When you drink them, changes take place in your brain that make you behave differently.1

Your self-control goes out the window. Your body actually becomes addicted to the unnatural sweetness like it’s a drug…

    Ready for Your Beach Body?

With summer here, everyone wants that beach body. And they want it in record time.

That’s why everyone is asking for the “fat burner.”

“Who was that guy that lost 28 pounds in 10 weeks?”

“I heard about the lady who says she gets noticed everywhere she goes…”

That’s what I hear in the office.

Here’s the deal: I do have a slimming formula. And the stories you’ve been hearing are true.

Will You Lose Your Right to Choose Your Food?

What if someone told you, “There is no absolute right to consume or feed children any particular food.”1

Or that you have “… no generalized right to bodily and physical health.”2

What would you say? What would you do?

I didn’t get this out of a George Orwell science fiction novel.

These are quotes from our government.

This was the FDA’s response when consumers and farmers from six different states filed a lawsuit to reverse the ban on selling raw milk between states…

When I Saw This Video, My Jaw Dropped

I’ve seen a video of mice the equivalent of 80-year-old humans running around like teenagers.

I wish you could have seen it… the video was jaw-dropping.

So, how did these “mice seniors” look and run like teens? They were given a new form of CoQ10.

The controls who received no CoQ10 were unresponsive and immobile. They had spinal and limb deformities, lesions in and around the eye, and discolored coats. Overall, they looked like dried-up corpses.

Remarkably, the mice who took the new CoQ10 looked responsive and energetic. They had no physical deformities, no lesions, and had bright, glossy coats. All of this in spite of the fact that they were actually very old – the equivalent of humans in their 80s…

    Salmon That’s Nine Times Better

If you’re wondering what to throw on the grill this summer, try salmon. A new study caught my eye that says astaxanthin, the pigment that gives salmon its pink color, protects your DNA.

The same researchers also found that astaxanthin lowers your C-reactive protein (CRP).

CRP measures inflammation in your body. Inflammation happens when your blood vessels are damaged because they’re not getting the nutrients they need. It’s the real cause of heart attacks and strokes…

    Did You Forget Your Shower?

Did you know that water utilities have found 315 pollutants in tap water?1 Most of my patients are already drinking filtered or bottled water. But most haven’t thought about what happens when they shower.

For many of these pollutants, there are no federal guidelines. For example, in Philadelphia, officials found 56 drugs and chemicals in treated water. It included pain meds, statins, antibiotics, and medications for mental illness and heart problems.2

There is no reliable system in place to remove these pollutants…

Would You Put Your Head in a Microwave?

Would You Put Your Head in a Microwave?

Your cell phone cooks your head in the same way your microwave heats up leftover meatloaf.

In fact, there’s new research that shows just how much your head is being cooked.

    One study German researchers found:

Using your cell phone for just 4 minutes heats up the side of your head by as much as 7 degrees.1

If the numbers are right, it’s scary. And I’m not the only one who thinks so. Many other doctors and researchers have concerns, too..

    Stop Your Brain From Shrinking

    Stop Your Brain From Shrinking

Did you know our brains shrink as we age?

Over the course of your life, your brain will lose five to 10 percent of its weight. It starts around your 20th birthday.

There are two things I want to tell you about today that can help prevent this very unfortunate consequence of aging.

One is an herb, and the other is a nutrient.

The herb I’m going to tell you about can actually help you to grow new brain cells.

Air Force “Hush-Hush” Over My Visit

Air Force “Hush-Hush” Over My Visit

A few weeks ago, I told you about the time I went to an Air Force base.

But I didn’t tell you everything in that first letter.

    There’s more to the story.

If you remember, the Air Force Colonel “KL” is a fan of PACE and uses it to train Air Force staff, especially those returning to active duty.

He invited me to one of the largest Air Force bases in the world to give him and his staff some PACE training ideas. The Colonel asked me not to make it public, so I can’t give you any other details…

As a Doctor, I Should Know Better

As a Doctor, I Should Know Better

I never used to think about “beauty products.” Most guys don’t. But recently I was asked to consult for “natural” beauty products, so…

    I started reading the labels.

I couldn’t believe what women were putting on their faces.

Turns out they’re slathering their faces with chemicals and things distilled from petroleum and crude oil.

Have you heard any of these warnings?

When Not to Do What the Doctor Orders

When Not to Do What the Doctor Orders

In the 20 years that I’ve been practicing medicine, diabetes has gone up every year.

It looks like it will keep getting worse, because medicine is still not focusing on the real solution.

Diabetes is a problem with diet, and the solution must come from food, not drugs.

Yet, new drugs are used in ever-greater numbers.

The new diabetic drugs Avandia and Actos increase a woman’s chance of breaking a bone by 50 percent. If you’re over 65 years old, your chances jump to 70 percent.1

And broken bones aren’t the only problem.

Avandia is linked to over 83,000 heart attacks between 1999 and 2007. If you take Avandia, you have a 43 percent greater chance of having a heart attack. And your risk of dying from a heart attack increases by 65 percent…

    What’s Lurking in Your Meat

If you eat hot dogs, sausages, or deli meat, your risk of heart attack jumps by 42 percent.1

But here’s what most people don’t know:

If you eat unprocessed meat, your risk doesn’t go up at all.

I just read a report about to be published in Circulation. Harvard scientists looked at 1,600 studies involving over 1.2 million people around the world. Listen to what they concluded:

Why You Should Throw Away Your Sunscreen

One of my patients took her family to a beach party. Knowing it was going to be a full day in the sun, she decided to give my new sun protection capsule a try.

After four hours of direct sunlight, she was astounded. Her skin was completely normal! There wasn’t a hint of sunburn … she wasn’t even pink.

Unfortunately, her husband and son weren’t so lucky. They hadn’t tried my new formula. So instead of being fully protected against the sun, they came home with burnt red noses and “farmer’s” tans…

If you or a loved one suffers from migraines, you know the side effects can be brutal.

They include nausea, vomiting, ulcers, seizures, dizziness, and extreme sensitivity to light.

You may be tempted to pop a pill and sleep the pain away in a dark room.

The most common pain relievers include, aspirin, naproxen, and ibuprofen.

But prolonged use of these pain relievers can actually make the pain worse…

    B Vitamins Better Than Drugs…

Today I want to talk to you about B vitamins. They are your best protection against heart attack and stroke and more powerful than any drug.

B vitamins are controversial, but they shouldn’t be… a lot of what you hear about them comes from misleading reports sponsored by drug companies.

Big Pharma is working on drug versions of B vitamins, especially B6. They’re hoping you’ll “trust” their drug version over the kind you get from a multi-vitamin.

But really, why would you pay hundreds of dollars for a prescription form of B6 when you can get it at your local vitamin store for pennies?

B vitamins are water soluble, which means you’ll find them in the meat of animal protein, instead of the fatty part. Some B vitamins are found in fruits and vegetables, but your best source is red meat. And for B12, red meat is your ONLY source.

About 25 years ago, I developed a phrase to help my fellow medical students remember the names for all the B vitamins. I still use this to teach nutrition today:
