Perhaps the oldest anti-aging technique on record is eating less. Wise men have known this for centuries. The thing that has changed is that now modern science has tested this approach, measured its effect and even found out how it works.

When you eat less, you get a number of benefits:

Body temperature drops

Blood pressure lowers

Cholesterol levels drop

Cells divide at a slower rate

The rate of glycation drops

Free radical activity drops

Inflammation lessens

Essentially what is happening is a form of hibernation. You are “living less,” thus adding years to your lifespan. The less food you eat, the less your metabolic system has to work.

I’ve been saying that cholesterol is not the bad guy, that it doesn’t cause heart disease, for 15 years.

But I’m not done yet.

The reason I can’t let go of this is because the problem has actually gotten much worse, not better.

Seventy-five percent of the patients who come to me with heart disease are already on a statin drug when I see them.

My first job is to try and talk them out of taking them... they’re usually scared and think they’re going to die if they stop taking it.

The big drug makers love to run slick TV ads trying to convince you that lowering your LDL will protect you from heart disease. Doctors often further misinterpret the science and lead patients to believe that they have to lower their cholesterol with drugs or die of heart disease.

Cholesterol does not cause heart disease. Cholesterol is what heart disease acts upon.

Cholesterol is a good thing. The more you have, the longer you’ll live.

In fact, the prestigious medical journal The Lancet did a study that looked at 724 people and followed them for 10 years. Researchers found that higher cholesterol meant a lower chance of dying from any cause.1

Cholesterol is a part of your body, and it’s a bad idea to declare war on a part of your body.

Unfortunately, many people who rely on mainstream medicine for health information haven’t gotten the message.

The way modern medicine treats cholesterol is the same as saying, “You have Alzheimer’s disease, let’s cut off your head.” It’s like if you come to me to have your bone mineral density measured, and I say, “We’ve found a problem with your bones. We have to take them out.”

New studies in Europe and Australia show that men trying to lower their cholesterol were found to no longer have normal sexual performance and healthy sexual desire.1

Drug companies want you to believe that your cholesterol should be low. In fact, they seem to recommend lower levels each year. The truth is, you can’t live well without plenty of cholesterol in your blood. Cholesterol is the basis of all your hormones – including your sex hormones testosterone and estrogen.

As a doctor, I’m outraged. As a father... well... I’m even more outraged...

For years, doctors have been handing out statin drugs to any patient with high cholesterol. But they’re the most dangerous drugs a doctor can prescribe. They’ve been linked to fatigue, heart problems, and even death.

But here’s what’s different about the side effects of statins: They don’t just pose an outside risk of an unlikely problem. They rob every single person who takes even one pill of energy. And if you take one for long enough, you’re going to feel very tired and very old...

In the old days, almost all of my heart patients were on statins. These days, even people who don’t have heart problems are taking them.

Most doctors have good intentions. They prescribe statins as a preventative. This sounds great until you look at just a few of the side effects from taking these drugs:

It features a 1950s family called the “Buttertons.” The mother serves the family entire sticks of butter shoved into baked potatoes. The voiceover says something like, “Back then we didn’t know much about cholesterol and saturated fats… Today, we know better.”

That means they’re telling you that you shouldn’t eat fat. It’s remarkable that this message is still dominant in the mainstream media.

The truth is we don’t eat a high fat diet. We eat less fat than our ancestors did. And yet we’re the ones with obesity, heart disease, high cholesterol, clogged arteries and high blood pressure...
